Girl’s Rules Basketball
a memory
I again recalled this memory as I was watching some basketball on TV…so glad things have changed!!
Back in the “good old days” [she says facetiously] — I loved to play basketball.
I even played some co-ed pickup games well past the good old days.
In those good old days — there was a private after-school league for girls — and my friends and I played in that league.
Why private? Because there have always been adults — usually men — who “knew better” about girls and women and they made the rules for how girls could play basketball in school and public leagues.
We had girl’s rules!
To protect the weaker or more fragile sex, girls were not allowed to run full court.
Teams had six players — 3 shooters and 3 guards.
