Me And My Watch
we’ve become a good match
I had given up wearing watches when I started carrying my cell phone everywhere. Since I had the phone in my pocket, I did not need a watch on my wrist.
A few years ago, my then health plan, or the exercise group associated with them, offered a free smartwatch — so I reviewed the two brands and picked one. I picked it because it was waterproof and I figured I could wear it when I was swimming. Turned out it didn't like my sweaty wrists when I walked on hot days and it stopped working. Made me wonder how it would ever work if I wore it swimming.
Anyway, that was my first experiment with one of these watches. The following year I checked to see what the gifts were and they again had the two watch brands available, so I picked the other brand.
It’s now a few years later and it's still working. What I like about the one I have is that it keeps track of my heart rate and gives me information on my resting heart rate, and some other health things that I am now beginning to pay attention to like heart rate variability— and it also monitors my breathing rate when I sleep and tells me about my body temperature and sleeping status.
