so glad I persisted

I plant a garden every year — whether it's in containers or in soil. I've been doing it since I was a kid when I gardened with my mother.

As usual, I bought my seeds from a source I’ve used for decades. Started my seeds in cardboard egg containers, which I've done most all the time, using potting soil from my favorite go-to store, which I've been doing for a long time, and taking care of them just like I have done for a long time.

But this year? Z.I.P. Not one seed germinated! It was time to put my research head into action!

Potential variables:

  • seeds
  • soil
  • care
  • containers

Could not believe that for the first time in decades, the company I buy seeds from sent me seeds that didn't germinate. I've had seeds from them that germinated after 10 and 15 years, so I crossed that off as a factor.

The soil. It's a brand name that you can get almost anywhere except I buy it at my favorite store. I can't believe that the three bags I bought were bad. So I crossed this off as a factor.
