selfie on a windy day

A bit of an intro to moi — and I’ll keep it short as I have lived a long time, and done a lot of stuff.

Born, raised, and educated in New York City — and yes, since you ask, I still sound like one of “those” New Yorkers. I got a great free education at Queens College thanks to “socialism.” I left New York for Boston “only” to get my Ph.D. as I had every intention of returning and living there for the rest of my life. But I fell in love with Boston and outdoor activities, and…

Nope — not gonna happen

Photo by Victor He on Unsplash

Nothing makes one feel better than to get an email from Medium that somebody mentioned you in a story. Yeah right.

What it usually means is that someone wrote a story and tagged lots of people — your name among them — hoping that you will read their story and they will get claps and money.

There are some who nag — oops — tag me and I know the list that they are using. …

Quick summary: I love it!

I started Intermittent Fasting [IF] over a year ago and this is my take on it: me, my body, and my issues. Your results may vary :)

Intermittent Fasting, or as I tell others, “I changed my eating schedule” is a way to schedule eating and not eating times. I almost never tell anyone I am doing Intermittent Fasting as that too often leads to an “I know more about that than you and let me tell you why it’s bad and won't work” kind of interaction….UGH! …

and— you are not confused!

I loved you until I didn’t

It was a fun place to live

I moved to Portland almost 18 years ago. When I arrived, I did not plan on staying because I don't stay places more than 5 to 8 years. I may stay in the same city or surrounding area, but I don't stay in the same house. BUT — I did stay put here and in one house — because I loved where I lived — a floating home on a river. I liked my neighbors, and I loved my lifestyle.

It was a fun neighborhood. Many potlucks, lots of water activities, great skiing, frequent spontaneous gatherings — especially in the…

Keeping Myself Sane

Every day for the past 2000+ days I have dictated into my computer what I call my morning mental meanderings.

This verbiage contains

  • thoughts about the day before
  • thoughts about the coming up day
  • how I feel
  • what and who I'm pissed at
  • musings about people and things that are driving me crazy
  • musings about people and things that are making me happy
  • anything else I feel like talking about
  • ideas for books, courses, and articles
  • rehashing my dreams
  • etc. etc. etc.

With apologies to Shakespeare — sanity sanity — all is my sanity.

But not surprising

Yes, Medium your email felt like a big F*** you to your writers.

I got the following email from Medium. If you've read any of my recent articles I quit being a paid member because of all the issues I was seeing on this platform. One major one was that you get fewer reads and therefore less money. Since I quit I still get paid but I just don't read much anymore because I'm a free member — and also, the quality of the articles was rapidly deteriorating except for the few writers that I liked. …

getting out of hibernation

image by Gerd Altman from Pixabay

I have often said I go into hibernation from about Thanksgiving until my birthday, which is near the end of January.

In retrospect, I think my hibernation started in early November with the election. It was high stress, getting dark out early, and light out late, plus all the political events that were like watching the train wreck that I could not take my eyes off.

Around inauguration day, I decided that there was no point in trying to do very much in January. I thought I’ll just let the month go on and not try to focus on anything in the way of writing or teaching — or anything-ing until February. It just seemed to my brain that January had…

Your membership has been cancelled

You asked me why I was canceling and I sent you a link to this article — which I assume you never read.

And since I wrote that article, I am still getting so many bot accounts following me that I can only assume you are leaving the bots in your system to prove to people how many millions of readers you have.

As if those bots read anything.

The few who actually have posts on their pages are all sales links.

I am disappointed that you have been leaving the bots in your…
